| BARCELONA, Spain -- Elche beat Celta Vigo 1-0 thanks to midfielder Javi Marquezs solo effort to claim its first win in Spains top flight in 25 years on Sunday. Also, Real Betis dealt Villarreal its first loss this season with a 1-0 home win, Levantes late goal gave it a 1-0 victory at Osasuna, and Getafe striker Adrian Colunga scored twice as it beat Espanyol 2-0. While neither team shone at Celtas Balaidos Stadium, Elche went close through Manuel del Morals high strike just before the halftime whistle. Marquez then broke the deadlock on a counterattack in the 62nd minute. His low shot from an angle while on the run sent the ball in off the far post. Elche earned promotion last season, making its long-awaited return to the first division where it had gone winless through six rounds to start this campaign. Levante looked ready to settle for a draw in Pamplona when midfielder Jordi Xumetra netted in the 87th following a penalty. Osasuna goalkeeper Andres Fernandez blocked Papakouly Diops spot kick, but Xumetra raced in to slot home the rebound. Osasuna dominated the first half but failed to capitalize, with striker Oriol Riera squandering two good chances. Levante improved in the second half with Simao Mates header finding the crossbar before Osasunas Jordan Loties fouled Ruben Garcia in the area with three minutes to play. Osasuna finished with 10 men when Alvaro Cejudo received a second yellow card in injury time. Under new coach Joaquin Caparros, Levante has two wins, four draws and only one loss to start the season. Osasuna was left with one win and six losses. "It was a wide-open game, and we both had clear chances," said Xumetra. "But we took the points at the end from a penalty that we were lucky enough to put in." Colunga opened the scoring at Espanyol in the 73rd minute for Getafe when he took substitute Pablo Sarabias throughball and fired it past goalkeeper Kiko Casillas into the corner of the net. Espanyol searched for the equalizer but could not convert its 14 corners, Joan Capdevila and Hector Moreno going the closest with headers. Colunga added his second goal in stoppage time to seal Getafes first away win of the season. It was Getafes third win in four matches, while Espanyol has now lost two straight after starting the season unbeaten in its first five games. "A miscue cost us the first goal and later arrived the nerves, the desperation and the heroics," said Espanyol manager Javier Aguirre. "We lacked clarity. Parenteau, 31, is a late bloomer who didnt reach the NHL for good until he was 27-years-old, but hes been a productive player, scoring 196 points in the past four seasons, which ranks 55th in the league. He fell out of favour in Colorado last season, missing 25 games with a couple of knee injuries and playing 16:57 per game, his lowest average time on ice of the past four seasons. On an Avalanche team that was among the leagues worst possession-wise, Parenteau was nearly break-even, so he wasnt particularly a problem in that respect. In Montreal, Parenteau should have a good opportunity to play in a top-six role, which is suitable for his price tag of $4.0-million over the next two seasons. A fifth-round pick brings with it a less than 15% chance of yielding an NHL player, but its a bit of a sweetener for the Habs taking on an extra year. Given that Montreal is getting the better player, that sweetener might not have been altogether necessary. The Avalanche Get: RW Daniel Briere. Briere is a 36-year-old who is well past his prime as a scoring forward, with a serious decline in productivity over the past couple seasons, managing 41 points in 103 games over the last two years.dddddddddddd Briere was dropped down the Canadiens depth chart last season, playing 12:46 per game, his lowest since 2000-2001. While Brieres game has declined -- hes not as quick as he once was -- he does come with a rep as a playoff performer, putting up 116 points in 124 postseason games over his career, which is tied for fourth among active players. Briere signed a two-year, $8-million deal as a free agent last summer, so his deal has one year remaining. He doesnt figure to play a prominent role in Colorado, but Briere should have a shot to play in Colorados top nine. If he does, theres a decent chance that, even if he scores a little bit more with more ice time, Brieres sinking possession stats will only be exacerbated by the Avalanches puck possession troubles. In the grand scheme of things, the Avalanche got away from two years of paying Parenteau, which was their motivation, but the price to pay means taking an inferior player for one year.
